Step Up Your Snack Game

Whether or not you're having a ladies' night in with your girls, having a study party, or a movie night with your boo, a snack is a must. Here's a quick and (very) easy buttered popcorn alternative that will change your snack game.

Spicy Pop

Ingredients

  • 1 bag PLAIN popcorn (or lightly salted will do)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp spirulina (yeah, we're going there)
  • cayenne pepper*
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • turmeric**
  • 1 tsp cumin

*add as much as you and your friends can handle. I add a LOT

**you don't have to add turmeric, but I've been reading into its anti-inflammatory benefits and threw in a pinch. Too much changes the taste a lot so be careful!

What to do?

Pop the bag of popcorn and dump into large bowl. Toss popcorn with the coconut oil to lightly coat most of the pieces. Gently mix in the rest of the ingredients and spice it up to your liking. If you're trying to be good, serve in individual serving bowls or share out of the bowl.

Why Spirulina?

Why not? Blue-green algae has always been there for us (and before us). I don't think it's utilized enough! Sprulina contains protein, a wide array of vitamins, and antioxidants. Studies have even shown that it increases immune support. Plus it changes food and drink into pretty colors so if you don't like the health benefits you can use that as an excuse to toss it into recipes! I read a handful of reviews before ordering my first batch of Spirulina and a lot of positive comments leaned more towards the Wholesale Health Connection brand (link below), so I ordered it and have no complaints!
